Guide is a tragic love story based on R.K Narayan’s novel ‘The Guide’. The story is about a tourist guide, Dev Anand, who falls in love with an unhappy married woman, Waheeda Rehman. He sacrifices everything to help her achieve her dreams, but he doesn’t get appreciation in return which leaves him devastated. Because of forgery case, he is sent to jail and upon release he wanders here and there in search of food and shelter. Namak Halaal (1982)
This golden jubilee hit was not new to Bachchan as he was the unbeatable superstar in his era. The plot of the movie is about reconciling of the estranged son (Amitabh Bachchan) and mother (Waheeda Rehman); and their loyalty towards protecting Raja Kumar (Shashi Kapoor) in a financial conflict with his cousin.
Namak Halaal became Blockbuster at the box office and was remade in Telugu and Tamil. The movie was again a huge hit in both Telugu (as Bhale Ramudu) and Tamil (as Velaikaran).
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994)
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun is one among the best Bollywood movies which is repeatedly watched by Indians all over the world. This movie represents the rich values and traditions of Indian culture. India Abroad captioned it as “cloyingly familial and touchingly sad melodrama replete with typical Indian social situations”. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001)
Gaddar, starring Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel, reminds us of the tragic partition of India-Pakistan in 1947 subsequent Hindu-Muslim riots. The story is about a Sikh driver who falls in love with a Muslim girl from an aristocratic family during the riots and how their love triumphs against all odds.
