What is the first thing that you do when you get midnight hunger pangs? Most of us would grab something sinful to eat from the fridge, only to be hit by sharp pangs of guilt and regret later.

Not to mention, we end up adding a few extra calories to our waist line too! But, don’t fret. We bring you ten healthy snack foods to satiate your nocturnal hunger cravings without risking your health.

  1. Milkshake / Smoothie

Whip a cool and refreshing yoghurt smoothie made with fresh fruits. You can also substitute yoghurt with low fat milk. Nourishing and filling at the same time, a glass of milkshake or smoothie makes a perfect healthy snack for you. During the winters, you can keep yourself warm with a cup of hot chocolate milk too.

  1. Fruits and Veggies

If you have been looking for low calorie and no fuss munchies, then make yourself a fruit salad topped with or without skimmed cream. Another option is to cut thick slices of cucumber, carrot and/or reddish and nibble them with a yoghurt dip.

  1. Sprout Bhel

Keep your fridge always stocked with sprouts. All you have to then do is to add some chopped tomatoes and onions and chat powder and viola, your instant sprout bhel is ready!

  1. Chana Chat

Another two super foods that you must always keep in your fridge are black chickpeas and white chickpeas. Add chopped tomatoes and onions, a few lemon drops and chat powder to these chanas for a quick power snack.

  1. Popcorn

Who wouldn’t like to munch on crispy popcorns while watching a late night movie? But lesser the fat and salt, healthier the popcorn is. Take a pan, add a tsp of olive oil and a pinch of salt, black pepper and turmeric each. Add corn kernels, cover the pan with lid and let them pop on the medium flame.

  1. Nuts

If you have a got a sweet craving, then a handful of nuts would work wonders for your taste buds. However, avoid consuming only one variety of nuts. Instead, keep handy a jar of mixed variety of nuts such as almonds, cashew nuts, apricots, figs, walnuts and raisins.

  1. Green Tea

Aah, nothing can beat the aroma of a freshly brewed cup of hot coffee or tea in the late night hours. But excess caffeine can take a toll on your body. A refreshing green tea is not only a healthier alternative, but it will also boost your metabolism and flush out the toxins from your system.

  1. Oatmeal

An absolutely fatless food, oats are a healthy snack and can help in keeping the hunger pangs at bay. Mix oats in warm milk and add your favourite fruit to it along with a tsp of honey.   1. Mini sandwiches

If your body is screaming for carbohydrates, then there’s nothing wrong in having sandwiches as a midnight binge. Make mini sandwiches by layering sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce leaves or any other vegetable of your choice between two slices of whole wheat or multi grain bread. Use margarine or olive oil to replace butter.

  1. Water

Your body needs to stay hydrated 24/7, round the year. Drinking a glass of water every half an hour would keep your hunger in check for a longer duration.
