What is Piles?
Also known as hemorrhoids, piles is a condition wherein the veins in the anus and lower rectum area become enlarged or swollen. This is usually caused due to chronic constipation, ageing, having a low fiber diet and even pregnancy. Besides the physical pain your body undergoes, there is a constant fear of spotting that often causes anxiety in the patients. While there are many medicines that can help relieve this problem, you can alternatively consider the natural ways to avoid any side effects.
Home Remedies for Piles
Here are some useful home remedies to treat piles without medical intervention.
Take one fourth cup of radish juice twice a day – in the morning and night. Increase the quantity to half a cup eventually.
Squeeze half a lemon to extract its juice. Mix it well in a cup of hot milk and drink it three to four times a day. The nutrients present in the lemon strengthen the blood vessel walls and capillaries. You can even squeeze half a teaspoon of lemon juice, mint juice, ginger juice and honey and have it once a day.
Boil a banana with a glass of milk. Mash it well and have this mixture three or four times a day.
Bitter Gourd Leaves
Blend the bitter gourd leaves properly to extract juice. Mix three teaspoons of juice in a glass of buttermilk and drink it on an empty stomach in the morning. Follow this for a month for the relief.
The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe Vera help in decreasing the irritation caused due to hemorrhoids. Cut the aloe vera leaves, place them in a container and freeze them. Apply the chilled aloe vera leaves on the affected area.
Wash figs and soak them in a glass of water. Keep them overnight and eat the figs in the morning on an empty stomach.
Since low intake of fiber is one of the causes of piles, including whole grains and other foods rich in fiber can help in keeping this problem at bay.
Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass full of water and have it twice a day to get relief from this problem.
Black Cumin Seeds
Roast a tablespoon full of black cumin seeds. Mix these with an equal quantity of unroasted black cumin seeds and powder them. Take half a teaspoon of this mixture once a day.
Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
Mix a pinch of salt in one fourth teaspoon of powdered carom seeds and have it with a glass of lukewarm water.
Almond oil moisturises and helps in reducing inflammation and burning sensation. Soak a cotton ball in almond oil and apply it evenly on the affected area multiple times a day.
Known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, olive oil is equally effective. It increases the elasticity of blood vessels that in turn helps in decreasing inflammation. Have one teaspoon of olive oil every day.
Warm Water Bath (Sitz Bath)
Soak your anal area in warm water for around 10 to 15 minutes twice or thrice a day. This helps in reducing the inflammation and gives relief.
Applying an ice pack on the anus contracts the blood vessels, decreases inflammation and reduces the pain instantly. Apply it for about 10 to 15 minutes three or four times a day.
As mentioned above, piles are often caused due to chronic constipation and regular exercising can increase the bowel movement. So make it a practice to squeeze in some time daily to exercise.
