Moong Dal Chilla

Chillas are one of the easiest , yet healthy snacks / breakfasts, be it wheat flour, besan ,dal. As many families,as many variations, be it the batter base or the vegetables added. There are no hard and fast rules and literally anything goes. Making the protein-rich moong dal chilla ups the health quotient and is quite ideal to start the day with. Top it with assorted vegetables as per your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 400 grams Moong Dal (washed and soaked for 5-6 hours)
  • 2 tablespoons Besan
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 5 Garlic Pods
  • 1 inch Ginger Piece
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • ΒΌ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 medium-sized Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Coriander Leaves (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  1. Drain the soaked dal.

  2. Take green chillies, ginger, garlic, and dal in a grinding jar.

  3. Grind to a smooth paste adding water as less as possible.

  4. Do not grind in one go as the jar will heat up.

  5. Give short time pulses in between.

  6. Remove the dal mixture into a bowl.

  7. Add besan to the mixture.

  8. Season with salt, red chilli powder, and turmeric powder.

  9. Add water to get thin dosa-like consistency batter.

  10. Whisk well with a balloon to break all the lumps.

  11. Add the chopped onion and coriander leaves for flavor.

  12. Heat a non-stick griddle (tawa) on medium flame.

  13. Pour 2 heaped tablespoons of the batter in the center and spread with a ladle in a circle.

  14. Drizzle little oil on the top.

  15. Flip to cook the other side and again put little oil.

  16. Remove when the color changes to light golden brown on both sides.

    How to make Moong Dal Chilla
  17. Ready all the Chillas in the same way.

  18. Serve hot with chutney/ketchup.
