Padosan (1968)

Based on a Bengali story, Paresh Bari by Arun Chowdhury, Padosan is considered one among the best comedy movies ever made in the Bollywood. Backed up with the music of R.D Burman and voice of Kishore Kumar, this movie was a huge hit and is still popular in the modern era.

Amar Akbar Anthony (1977)

Blockbuster and the highest grossing movie at that time, Amar Akbar Anthony is an action comedy movie which promoted tolerance for all the religions. The story is based on estranged and reconciling of three brothers who are raised in three different religions.

Amitabh speaks the famous nonsensical dialogue “you are a sophisticated rhetorician intoxicated with the exuberance of your own verbosity,” while coming out from the easter egg is simply commendable.

Golmaal (1979)

A huge-hit and one of the finest comedies, Golmaal is a rib tickling complex love story. The movie has amazing music of R.D Burman, giving it another reason for its popularity.

Chupke Chupke (1975)

The comic act of duo Dharmendra – Amitabh Bachchan and music crafted by S.D Burman is an amazing movie to pep up your mood.

Sharaabi (1984)

Sharaabi, a movie full of drama and a mega hit at the box-office, is about a rich father and his resentful son. The movie celebrated its platinum jubilee. Bappi Lahiri and Kishore Kumar won the best music director and male playback singer awards by Filmfare.

Mr. India (1987)

“Mogambo khush hua”

Mr. India, a cult classic science fiction movie, was the highest grossing movie of 1987. The movie is about an invisible superhero. On the centenary of Indian Cinema, Mr. India has been declared one of the 100 Greatest Indian Films of All Time. The movie was also known for an amazing dance performance by Sri Devi on “Hawa Hawaii“.

Tezaab (1988)

Madhuri Dixit became a star overnight with the release of Tezaab. Her outstanding performance on “Ek do teen” was a chart success. The movie ran for more than 50 weeks in theaters making it the highest Blockbuster in the box-office with a golden jubilee.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) is an unforgettable tragic love story. It is a landmark in the history of Bollywood as both the starlets, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, came together for the first time and their magical chemistry continued in another ten movies. They kept their audiences entertained throughout the 80s and 90s with their spectacular.

Papa kehte hai…” is still one among the best songs till date.

Chaalbaaz (1989)

Sri Devi gave one of her finest performances in Chaalbaaz which made it a super hit commercial movie. She rocked her performance of a double role, one of being a chirpy girl and another distinctly tearful role.

Her slapstick rain dance “Na jaane kahan se aayee hai” was a super hit and is still popular. Saroj Khan bagged the Filmfare Award for the Best Choreographer.

Lamhe (1991)

Lamhe, a cult classic movie, is the finest movies by Yash Chopra and his favorite too.  Sri Devi played a double role this was one of her best performances in Indian cinema. The movie was a super hit in metropolitan elites and overseas. The subject was too bold and the Indian audience didn’t accept the incest theme and the movie had a poor box-office in the lower class (often a large audience for Bollywood movies). It is one of the Top 10 movies of Yash Chopra.

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)

Winner of 3 National Film Awards, Dil to Pagal Hai (DTPH) was the highest grossing movies of the year worldwide.  The romantic triangle in a dance troupe was a commercial success. The storyline and soundtrack attracted a lot of praises from its audience. This musical romantic movie is one of the Top 10 Yash Chopra’s movies.

Sarfarosh (1999)

Sarfarosh is an entertaining thriller, a story about cross-border terrorism (ISI) starring Sonali Bendre and Aamir Khan (as an IPS officer). The movie won the Best Film Filmfare award and is the favorite of many people throughout India. The commendable acting of Naseeruddin Shah as a ghazal singer and a terrorist is worth appreciating.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, a Bollywood romantic drama movie won four National Film Awards. Aishwarya Rai’s award winning performance along story full of emotions, romance, comedy, dance numbers and songs made it a huge hit in Indian box-office as well as foreign box-office.

Filmfare reviewer marked it as “once in a decade type of extravaganza” and wrote, “Cinematographically, the movie is flawless and by virtue of this fact alone, a must-see. It aims at capturing poetry on screen without becoming pretentious. The music by Ismail Darbari is simply enchanting. The film juxtaposes Indian thematic content with exotic foreign locales.”

Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)

Shahrukh Khan is a show stealer and his magical performance with Karan Johar’s production made it the second highest grossing movie domestically. The done-to-death plot of the movie is packed with comedy, romance, inspiration, and drama which makes it worth your entertainment bucks. The movie won many nominations and awards.

Lakshya (2004)

National Film Award winner, Lakshya, is an Indian war drama. The movie is about an aimless young man who realises his existence and becomes an army officer. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Lakshya is a motivational call to many youngsters who live an idle life and the movie got popular for its plot of finding a purpose in life.

Black (2005)

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Big B along with Rani Mukherjee received 53rd National Film Awards. The exceptional acting of Rani Mukherjee and Big B were highly praised by the critics. This movie was selected in the Top 10 best movies globally by Time Magazine (Europe).

PK is a science fiction comedy movie of a humanoid alien who lands on Earth on a mission, but he loses his satellite remote the moment he lands Rajasthan. The movie is all about finding his remote and experiences of his interaction with the superstitious and dogmatic religion. With the highest online bookings, PK was the highest grossing Indian movie of all the time.
